পি.আর.ঠাকুর, বিশেষত সংবিধান পরিষদে তাঁর ভূমিকা নিয়ে অনেকেই মনগড়া মন্তব্য করেন, যা বিভ্রান্তিকর। এ বিষয়ে আলোকপাত করার জন্য অনেক অনুরোধ জমা হয়ে আছে। সেই তাগিদ থেকেই এই সংক্ষিপ্ত উপস্থাপনা: সংবিধান পরিষদের কার্য বিবরণী অনুসরণ করে দেখা যাচ্ছে, বঞ্চিত জনগোষ্ঠীর স্বার্থে সব চেয়ে উচ্চগ্রামে যিনি কথা বলেছেন, তিনি পি.আর.ঠাকুর। সুকৌশলী ও দূরদর্শী বাবাসাহেব আম্বেদকর সংবিধান পরিষদে হয়ে উঠেছিলেন সমন্বয়বাদী তথা সকলের প্রতিনিধি। পরিষদের প্রথম সভা হয় ৯.১২.৪৬ তারিখে। ড. আম্বেদকর ১৭.১২.৪৬ তারিখে প্রথম ভাষণেই ( সংবিধানের Aims & objects সম্পর্কে) নিজের এই ভাবমূর্তি তুলে ধরেন—“I know today we are divided politically, socially and economically, we are a group of warring camps and I may go even to the extent of confessing that I am probably one of the leaders of such a camp. But, sir, with all this I am quite convinced that given time and circumstances nothing in the world will prevent this country from becoming one.(Applause). With all our caste and creeds, I have not the slightest hesitation that we shall in some form be a united people.” (Cheers). এই সূত্রে ১৯.১২.৪৬ তারিখে পি.আর.ঠাকুর বলেন, “Sir, Dr. Ambedkar did not say anything last time about the Depressed Classes, so I consider it a great honour to speak to the members of the Constituent Assembly on behalf of the Scheduled Castes in general of India.” দীর্ঘ ভাষণের শেষ দিকে তাঁর বিস্ফোরক ঘোষণা ছিল: “We the Depressed Classes are the original inhabitants of this country. We do not claim to have come to India from outside as conquerors, as do the Caste Hindus and the Muslims. As a matter of fact, India belongs to us and we cannot tolerate the idea that this ancient mother country of ours will be divided between the Muslims and the Caste Hindus only….”
ড. আম্বেদকর যেখানে জোর দিয়েছেন, শত জাত-বর্ণে বিভক্ত হওয়া সত্ত্বেও ভারতবর্ষে একদিন সবাই মিলে মিশে আমরা এক হয়ে যাব; পি.আর.ঠাকুর সেখানে নিজেকে নিপীড়িত জনগোষ্ঠীর প্রতিনিধি হিসেবে তুলে ধরে বলেছেন, এই ভারতবর্ষের আমরাই মূলনিবাসী, সুতরাং আমাদের স্বার্থ বিপন্ন করে শুধুমাত্র বহিরাগতদের মধ্যে এই প্রাচীন মাতৃভূমিকে ভাগ-বাঁটোয়ারা করে দেবার চিন্তাভাবনা আমরা কিছুতেই বরদাস্ত করব না।(ক্রমশঃ)
